The Thinking Material Requirements Guide
The who, what, where and how to supply material to Thinking.

Use this page as a Guide on how to supply material to Thinking so that time is not lost nor workflow delayed.

Step 1
The most important rule and the simplest of all -
We can basically open any image file as long as you do one thing...

ENSURE EVERY FILE YOU SEND HAS AN EXTENSION.

Thinking works on a PC/Windows 98/NT/2000 platform. Unlike Apple machines, the system requires each file to have an extension so that it knows which program to use to open the file.

For example the file format should be -

"filename" - "full point" - "extension"

eg:
filename.eps
filename.tif
filename.gif
etc

NB: Please do not use symbols such as "/ \ { } ? < > , & # @ % *" in the file name. These symbols have a different meaning in the Windows and UNIX environment. The only symbols that are really safe are the trusty "underscore (_)" or "hyphen (-)". Also try to use only one full point just before the extension.

WITHOUT THESE IN PLACE WE MAY NOT KNOW WHAT FILE IT IS AND HOW TO USE IT. IT MAY BE RETURNED TO YOU AND WORK STOPPED UNTIL THE FILE IS DEFINED.

To help you, in the right hand column is a list of all the programs used at Thinking and the extensions needed to open files created in these programs.

Step 2
Files to include:
With any files, the safest thing is to assume we will have to rebuild the entire file from scratch.

1) Always add a PDF (Adobe Acrobat) file so we know how it is supposed to look.

2) Include everything needed to create the files -
- the original file
- image files
- text or word files
- etc

See the description of software programs available at Thinking and their extension in the column to the right of this page.
